The Hotel \\\"Il Palazzo\\\", in the heart of Assisi, is located halfway between the Basilica of Saint Francis and Piazza del Comune. It occupies the left wing of Palazzo Bartocci Fontana, built in the 1500s following the design of Giulio Danti. The palace, still owned and run by the descendants, preserves at the first floor the central salon with \\\"telari\\\" (mythical scenes) of Antonio Nessi. The ceiling, as well as the contiguous rooms, has been distempered in the 1700s. The building rises on the foundations of medieval shops, inns and \\\"fondachi\\\" (storage cellars).

From the rooms on the front on the second floor you may admire the splendid view on the Spoleto valley, delimited by the hills of Bettona and Perugia; far on the horizon you may even see the Monte Amiata in Tuscany. The centre of the valley is dominated by the huge dome of S. Maria degli Angeli.
