The wineries to visit, all of which make excellent wines, are: JERZU ANTICHI PODERI Via Umberto I,1 Jerzu NU; VITIVINICOLA ALBERTO LOI S.S. 125 Km 124,200 Cardedu NU. During the course of the year at Jerzu there are various wine festivals such as the festa del Novello and Calici di stelle, both included in the map of the strade del vino. In June there’s the country festival in the church of S.Antonio only 100 m from the Hotel Rifugio Ogliastra. Also in the surrounding area, you can visit sheepfolds and see cheese being made. For your excursions in Ogliastra you can visit the nearby ghost towns (Osini and Gairo Vecchio) and take a step back in time to the well-preserved houses that were abandoned during the 1952 flood. From the other Gairo (Tacquisara) there’s the picturesque railway station from which the Trenino Verde (an old steam train) runs in the summer months, covering a panoramic route in the interior of Sardinia.
